Hydroelectric power plant Lipno I has been fully automated since end of May, at the same time it has one of the fastest system of network connection in the field of hydropower engineering in the world. Czech control system of our company ZAT arranged this. „The power plant gets connected to network within 16 seconds, which is fundamental for a stand-by power plant. We belong to a few companies in the world that are capable of regulating power supply in this way. It is about a half-time compared to other technologies,“ says Ivo Tichý, member of the ZAT Board of Directors. It has been one of the biggest ČEZ investment in reconstruction of hydroelectric power plant control for almost 70 million Czech crowns.
The power plant is controlled from 140 km far located control centre in Štěchovice in the mode of fictitious unit 120MWe. Original control system has been fully replaced with a new control system SandRA (Safe and Reliable Automation) of company ZAT. This system ensures entering and phasing the units in extremely short periods of time, usually within 16 seconds. Besides comfort of operation there have been considerably improved regulation properties of both turboaggregates, which has become evident in verification of guaranteed parameters, e.g. modes of ensuring system services ČEPS M75, group regulation, island operation and black start.
„At hydroelectric power plant Lipno I we have performed complete replacement of the I&C, Electro part including electric protection, equipment of field instrumentation as well as cabling and adjustment of control room. We have replaced automatic machines of individual devices, joint equipment both in above-ground and under-ground part and fully control of power output substations in 4 lines R100kV, 11 lines R25kV and at our own consumption substations. As an in-house system communication we have implemented communication protocol EC60870-5-104. In the technical solution we have applied all measures for ensuring cyber security of entire equipment,“ says František Kural, Director of ZAT Energetics Division.
The reconstruction went on from May 2016. Company ZAT, project main contractor, has at the hydrelectric power plant with the highest downslope at Vltava cascade set up process stations SandRA Z200, Z210 a Z110. „We have been cooperating with company ČEZ on a long-term basis. Our intention will be to keep further cooperation and thus to apply Czech control system at home market,“ says Ivo Tichý.
