The future of Czech nuclear engineering was again discussed at the Ministry of Industry and Trade in February. Around the table, there were sitting representatives of company GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Czech companies supplying to the nuclear industry. Management of the American company together with their colleagues from the subsidiary from Japan presented the basic design of a project for small modular reactor BWRX-300 with its first put into operation in the USA is planned for 2028.
At there seminar, there was discussed not only the technical solution of the project but mainly possibilities of cooperation between Czech, American and Japanese companies, which was the main goal of the event. Representatives of company GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy discussed the possibility of participation of Czech companies in supply chains for the European market. A part of the turbine island and realization of construction parts of projects seem to be the most significant area for the Czech industry. And last but not least, there is a potential in cooperation in the field of research and education.
Jan Homut, Deputy Director of the Power Engineering Division discussed the application of ZAT products for the European market. „Our company is experienced a lot in development and setup of the technologies for small nuclear reactors, e.g. in supplies for research reactor VR-15 at the Research Centre Řež or for a small research reactor in Brazil. We believe that our technologies or know-how will be used in the setup of reactor BWRX-300 in Europe,“ says Jan Homut.
