We have signed a strategic contract with ČEZ for the modernization of a key control system at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant

ZAT, in consortium with I&C Energo, has secured a strategic contract for the modernization of a key control system for the existing units of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant. The project, which has a direct impact on operational reliability and the safe operation of the plant, includes significant investments in technology, safety, and staffing.

The ten-year contract covers the replacement of existing unit control systems for both the primary and secondary circuits across all four units, with planned operation extending at least until 2045. The Czech SandRA control system will gradually replace the previous third-generation ZAT systems installed at the plant between 2007 and 2016, which currently manage more than 70% of Dukovany’s operations.

“For us and for the Czech nuclear industry, this is a strategic contract. The preparation phase was very demanding. We began working on the technical concept, including the modernization of the SandRA Z201 control system, as early as 2020,” said Ivo Tichý, CEO and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of ZAT a.s. “At the same time, this partnership is beneficial for all parties involved. Both companies have the necessary expertise and workforce capacity to successfully deliver the project in line with ČEZ requirements—not only in the required quality, but also within very tight deadlines,” he added.

As part of the project, I&C Energo will be responsible for installation activities related to ZAT control systems and for commissioning, including testing. The company will also contribute to engineering activities for the primary circuit and for the overarching unit-level diagnostic and information system.

“We are focused on further increasing efficiency and safety while ensuring long-term operation. This also involves upgrading the existing control and instrumentation system at Dukovany. These are highly demanding projects—not only in terms of required quality, but also due to the need to replace systems without any impact on the operation of the units,” said Bohdan Zronek, Member of the Board of Directors and Head of the Nuclear Energy Division at the ČEZ Group.
