ZAT will supply excitation regulators for critical diesel generators at the Temelín, Dukovany, and Jaslovské Bohunice nuclear power plants

ZAT, a leader in control systems for nuclear energy, will supply excitation regulators with the highest safety category to Czech and Slovak nuclear power plants. The cutting-edge AVR Safety regulator, launched last year, will be installed on eight diesel generators at the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant, twelve diesel generators at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant, and six diesel generators at the Jaslovské Bohunice Nuclear Power Plant.

Excitation regulators play a crucial role in nuclear power plant safety. Diesel generators are essential for emergency power supply to reactor systems in case of main power source failure. ZAT’s new generation AVR Safety excitation regulators meet the strict Category A safety requirements, significantly enhancing the operational reliability of nuclear facilities.

Project covers key nuclear power plants

Thanks to this supply, the diesel generators at the Temelín, Dukovany, and Jaslovské Bohunice nuclear power plants will be equipped with technology that ensures their reliable operation in crisis situations. Deployment of AVR Safety across all three plants covers important regions of Central Europe and raises the level of nuclear safety in this strategic area.

Technological advancement

The new AVR Safety system advances the existing generation of excitation regulators to a new technological level in the areas of:

  1.  - High safety standards: The system meets the highest safety standards of SIL3 and is certified for use in critical nuclear applications according to safety Category "A" (ČSN EN 61226), including the essential ČSN EN 60880,
  2.  - Robust technology: Resilience to failures, faults, and extreme conditions ensures reliable operation of diesel generators even in the worst-case scenarios,
  3.  - Integrated diagnostics: Automatic fault detection and intelligent monitoring enable quick responses to potential issues and reduce the risk of unplanned downtime.
