ZAT to supply excitation controllers for critical diesel generators at Temelín, Dukovany and Jaslovské Bohunice NPPs

ZAT, a leader in control systems for the nuclear power engineering, will supply the Czech and Slovak nuclear power plants with excitation controllers in the highest safety category. The high-end AVR Safety controller, which we launched last year, will be deployed on eight diesel generators at Temelín Nuclear Power Plant, twelve diesel generators at Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant and six diesel generators at Jaslovské Bohunice Nuclear Power Plant.

Excitation controllers play a vital role in the safety of nuclear power plants. Diesel generators are essential to provide emergency power to reactor systems in situations where the main power supply fails. ZAT's new generation of AVR Safety excitation controllers meet the stringent safety requirements of Category A, contributing significantly to the operational reliability of nuclear facilities.

The project covers key nuclear power plants

Thanks to the delivery, the diesel generators at the NPPs Temelín, Dukovany and Jaslovské Bohunice will be equipped with technology that ensures their reliable operation in crisis situations. The deployment of AVR Safety in all three plants covers important regions of Central Europe and increases the level of nuclear safety in this strategic area.

Technological progress

The new AVR Safety system takes the current generation of excitation controllers to a new technological level in the following areas:

  1. - high level of safety: the system meets the highest safety standards of SIL3 category and is certified for use in critical nuclear power applications according to safety category "A" (EN 61226), including the important EN 60880,
  2. - Robust technology: resistance to failures, faults and extreme conditions ensures reliable operation of diesel generators even in the worst scenarios,
  3. - Integrated diagnostics: automatic fault detection and intelligent operation monitoring allows rapid response to potential problems and reduces the risk of unplanned downtime.
